July Workshops
| Date | Location | Details |
| Mon 12 | Heron Cottages | Drawing and painting using natural shapes from the garden. This will be a lovely day starting by drawing various different plant and leaf shapes, going on to use monoprint techniques to create some colourful prints |
| Tue 13 | Heron Cottages | Painting in the garden, or continuing the printing theme if preferred. The garden is becoming more and more enclosed and there are a good variety of foliage and flower shapes, plus the small pond and very attractive new front door with surronding vegetation! Watercolour, oil or acrylic would all be good. |
| Wed 21 | Winchelsea Town | There are many lovely vistas around the town, including attractive town houses, the two ancient arches at each end, a lovely church which contains some beautiful stained glass windows, three medieval tombs through to have been rescued from the church of the original Winchelsea which was submerged by floods, and a copy of a painting called 'The Random Shot' by Millais, the famous pre-Raphaelite painter who lived in the town. The church itself is a handsome building with ruin attached. |
| Fri 23 | Heron Cottages | Ink and wash paintings, thinking in terms of quick sketches around the garden and of the horse and ponies in the field behind. This will produce some great images either in their own right or to use as sketches for later paintings. |
| Tue 27 | Iden Cottage | This lovely old house and garden has a fascinating history and has been visited by kings and queens. it is now gently nurtured by Stephanie and John Harrison. The garden has wild meadow areas and old trees towards the back, with looping grapevines twining below and cultivated flower beds nearer the house. Roses of every colour and scent ramble over the kitchen door and down paths and over arches. There is also a large pond with a wooden bridge spanning the middle, Monet style. This is not a highly manicured sterile place, but a garden to wander in and discover secret beautiful spots and lovely vistas. |
| Wed 28 | Newenden | Painting around the garden, down by the river, or along the road where there are lovely cottage fronts and along in Newenden chruchyard where beautiful carved old grave stones have been recently exposed during clearance of bushes and brambles (or inside the church if you wish). I will come and find you with enthusiasm and advice wherever you decide to go! |
August Workshops
| Date | Location | Details |
| Thu 5 | Newenden | A day in the garden, using watercolour, starting with a demonstration of creating interesting composition and going on to use or watercolour paint. Demonstrations sporadically during the day. |
| Fri 6 | Rye Harbour | This day has been chosen because the late tide will have gone out by the time we arrive and will not return until late afternoon. This means more time to concentrate on one painting if wished, plus there will be more areas to explore and sights to choose. If you fancy a cup of tea and a look round a very nice little gallery, Avocet Tea Rooms are now open and have lots to see and are very welcoming. |
| Tue 10 | Dungeness | People still ask me if we can include Dungeness with its vast shingle banks with plants, lighthouses, light railway with station, fantastic skies - so we are going again! It's great! |
| Thu 12 | Forstal | This is a lovely garden very close to Heron Cottages. There are borders, shrubs and trees, an old stone wall, a large naturalised pond, summer house and greenhouse. Lots of lovely views and vistas, including a view of the back of Heron Cottages which could be interesting! By kind permission of Anne and Maguette Bourne. |
| Mon 16 | Lunsford Farm | This farm is always popular. Andrew Dunlop goes out of his way to advise on interesting places to paint. There are many lovely views, lovely cottages, barns and duck pond. The inside of the threshing barn is particularly lovely and it's a marvellous for quick drawn or painted sketches of chickens, lambs, ducks and cows. Go to www.featherdown.co.uk for a few images of the farm and www.geograph.org.uk for image of the oast house. |
| Tue 17 | Lunsford Farm | Last year we tried two days here and it went very well. It gave people who wanted longer to work on a painting, more time to do so, and others a first day feeling free to experiment and prepare and a second to paint. So we are trying this again this year. On the other hand if you just want to spend one day here that is great too. |
